So my sister… she gets up at 0-dark-thirty to go to my niece's house so my niece (a single mom) can get to work and my sister then gets the two grands up and off to school This way my niece can get her work hours in early and be home when her two kiddos get home from school. My sister loves (LOVES) doing this -- loves her children and grandchildren more than life itself. My sister raised her four children virtually as a single parent and they are awesome people. She is an amazing parent and grandmum (and sister, but that's another story).
Thankfully didn't break skin. Thankfully her other daughter still lives with her and could take her to the hospital. They twilighted her out, reset the bone, gave her a temporary boot and set up surgery to insert metal and screws for this Wednesday, May 14th, which also happens to be her 67th birthday. (Again BTW, when the nurse was going room to room looking for a 66 yr old woman with a broken ankle she skipped over my sister a couple times a she looks - and acts - much younger.)
The point of this story is that my sister is a rock. She is so amazing - so strong, so solid, so wonderful. (She doesn't think so at all. If she has any faults at all, it's being self-deprecating.) After a fall and broken ankle that would put most people I know in bed for weeks, then hobbling around, she is right back into her routine telling everyone it's no big deal and rather beating herself up for tripping in the first place (which is nonsense and I need to get with her and set that straight!).
She has had monumental challenges in her life, but to see her and hear her, it just was. I could fill blog post after blog post with stories of her life experiences. Is life what she had hoped and planned? Besides her four beloved children, her two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren, nope. But she powers through because she believes (knows) that's the only option. All the time lifting others and never berating anyone. People always feel better for being around her.
It's people like her in my life that have helped me catch the vision of heaven - have been the reason I searched for and found the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (via The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) which teaches families are meant to be together forever. I want to be with my family for all eternity. My sister is my heroine. She is my dearest friend and kindred spirit. I cannot imagine this life, or the next, without her.
